Chukpuppy is an alternative hip-hop artist based in Ottawa, Ontario, whose music combines hip-hop beats with unusual sound textures and poetry-driven lyricism. He began writing lyrics at just eleven years old, developing a unique writing style rooted in his background as a poet. Known for his distinctive voice and unconventional approach to sound, Chukpuppy creates music that blends rhythmic hip-hop foundations with unexpected sonic elements. His lyrics draw on years of poetry writing, bringing a literary sensibility to his music while keeping the sound experimental and personal. He uses the boom-bap sound of 90s rap as his starting point and innovates from there, pushing the boundaries of what the hip-hop genre can sound like. As a transgender artist, Chukpuppy made history when two of his tracks, “Born in a Black Hole” and “Here to Please,” aired on a conservative radio station in Alabama, proving the universal reach and undeniable impact of his sound.
